Both hailing from Tennessee, Colony House and COIN are currently on a Fall tour. Joined by openers, Flor, the lineup took a stop at The Basement in Columbus on October 8th, 2015.
Flor has only officially released one EP (Sounds EP), yet they’ve managed to get an opening slot on Halsey’s tour, following their quick run with Colony House and COIN. That alone should be enough to prove that despite being newcomers, they’ve already gained enough traction to be playing with the big boys. However, their rising status clearly hasn’t made them lose their humble and sincere nature. Frontman Zach Grace’s vulnerability came out in every song as he sang gently with the hint of a lisp. It’s this vulnerability that has allowed Flor to easily connect with its audience, and catch the attention of those like Halsey and Colony House. Download Flor’s EP for free and check them out on tour.
COIN hit the stage next. Their indie rock vibes feel nostalgic and familiar, yet brand new at the same time. The band released their debut self-titled album in June and went on tour with Neon Trees shortly afterwards. Now on tour with Colony House, the band quickly got the crowd off their feet, and turned the show into a synth pop dance party. Vocalist Chase Lawrence had the crowd in the palm of his hand as he jumped around the stage and lead them to follow suit. Check out the band’s self-titled album COIN and be sure to catch them on tour with the Colony House through October.
Colony House performed most of the songs off of their debut album--When I Was Younger--but did take the time to play a few new songs, which were received well by the packed audience. The band truly did play a rock show, playing their guitars with reckless abandon, while Caleb Chapman(frontman) occasionally jumped in the crowd, often hanging from the ceiling. Their performance was energetic and uplifting; many of the songs involved lyrics of perseverance and triumph, almost making the band seem as if they’re putting on their own inspirational sermon for the crowd through their alt-rock songs. The band said that a new album is on the horizon, so stay updated on that here and in the meantime, check out When I Was Younger, or see them touring the US until November.
