Rayland Baxter
Rayland Baxter is from Nashville, TN, and the Nashville effect is easy to see in his music, as Rayland and his band spent the set creating bluesy country music for the crowd. Rayland showed his talent for folk-style storytelling through his lyrics layered on top of groovy guitar tones and melodic keyboards. His folk influence was proven once again when he covered “Love Sick” by Bob Dylan towards the end of the set, adding a modern touch to a ‘90s classic. Grace Potter
Grace Potter didn’t waste any time as she hit the stage dancing with a stunning backdrop of stars and lights behind her. The singer seemed to have casted a spell on the audience, as everyone was bewitched by her every word and movement. The singer jumped between an electric guitar, a twelve-string acoustic guitar, and a piano. If that isn’t enough, she somehow still found the energy to banter with the crowd a bit, and even passed out pieces of Late Night Slice pizza to her band members before she chowed down on a slice in between songs.
Have no fear, the pizza had no ill effect on her vocals as she still sang out every song with power and soul. Her vocal range is out of this world, and her music takes you through a time machine back to true classic rock and blues. Her performance felt like it should’ve been at Woodstock in 1969, but the audience didn’t mind a bit—singing and dancing along to two hours full of hits from Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, as well as songs from her solo album.
Grace Potter’s music brings a new style to a classic sound, and that’s something that’s hard to find these days. Check out her solo album, Midnight, and be sure to see her on tour this fall.
