In promotion of the recent release of their second album--Every Open Eye—CHVRCHES has embarked on a U.S. tour with Mansionair. The bands made a stop in Columbus’ LC Pavilion on October 7th, 2015.
Mansionair started the show off with their atmospheric indie rock. The trio released their second EP, Pick Me Up, less than a week ago on October 2nd. The band played quite a few laid-back and melancholy songs, yet managed to keep an uplifting energy and won their way into the hearts of many. The band commented, “Once you’re so far away from home, it eventually starts to feel like home.” Coming all the way from Sydney, the crowd welcomed the band with open arms and made their first experience in Columbus a memorable one.
CHVRCHES took to the stage with a sea of fog surrounding their silhouettes. The band played nearly half the songs off ofEvery Open Eye, and despite its release date only being a couple weeks ago, most of the crowd sang along to every word.
CHVRCHES fed off the crowd’s positive energy and kept the show rolling, playing many of their older hits in between their newer material.
The band members were voracious, even though Iain Cook (synths, guitar, bass, vocals) and Martin Doherty (synths, samplers, vocals) were held on their own risers, they each put on their own respective shows, dancing around with wide grins. Lauren Mayberry (lead vocals) spent the set interacting with the crowd in any way she could, jumping back and forth between each end of the stage all while flawlessly hitting each and every note. The concert date was actually Mayberry’s 28th birthday, and as she even said, what better way to spend a birthday than performing in front of thousands of fans? If you’re wondering what gift to give her, check out CHVRCHES newest album, Every Open Eye, and be sure to catch one of their upcoming shows.
