This Wild Life performed at Park Street Saloon October 12th, 2015 with a few local openers, including, Former, Will Deely, and Second Story Anthem.
Second Story Anthem is a young pop-punk band from London, Ohio. Their music is not all that atypical, but they do have a certain charm to them. The band had an unshakeable energy, even jumping into the crowd and moshing while performing for their closing song. For a new band, it’s okay to simply have fun while developing a defining sound, and besides, how many other bands bring a random mascot in a bear outfit to hype the crowd up? Take a listen to their Just Bear With Me EP and you’ll see what I mean.
Will Deely seemed like a perfect fit opening for This Wild Life. His alternative acoustic music feels inspired by This Wild Life and their predecessors. What sets Will Deely apart from others is his vocal delivery. His vocals seem almost bluesy and have a soothing characteristic, which makes his live show incomparable. Check out his debut EP What Keeps You Warm and stay tuned on his upcoming shows.
Former performed their first show ever last night with This Wild Life. The band’s music walked a fine line between pop-punk and post-hardcore, and with no songs released, it’s a bit hard to say what the band’s genre truly is, but I don’t think it actually matters anyways. The band put on a solid performance, especially for their first show, and I’m looking forward to seeing what comes from them in the future.
The last time I saw This Wild Life was at the Newport Music Hall in March when they were opening for New Found Glory. In less than a year, I can already clearly see the progression in the group’s live show. The band seemed more comfortable in their skin this time around, and they seemed to thrive in the smaller bar setting at Park Street Saloon. Anthony Del Grosso even took turns on the drums for a couple songs, while Kevin Jordan continued to hold it down playing guitar while singing catchy melodies. The band performed nearly every song off of their debut album--Clouded and closed their set with an older song (“Ripped Away”), from their EP Heart Flip, mixed with a short cover of “First Date.”
The duo has an impressive talent of creating memorable songs by vocalizing indignant emotions while playing mellow acoustic guitars. The band stated at the end of their set that they’re accustomed to playing short opening sets for bigger bands, but I think This Wild Life should get used to spending their time in the limelight—with their live performance and unforgettable songs, I don’t think they’ll be playing as openers for much longer.
